Spider-Man Animated Movie Delayed Until 2018

Phil Lord and Chris Miller's anticipated 'toon delayed to Christmas 2018.

Those of you who were justifiably excited for Phil Lord and Chris Miller's (The Lego Movie, 21 & 22 Jump Street) previously-announced Spider-Man animated film for Sony, well, I'm afraid you'll have to wait just that bit longer for it. Exhibitor Relations are reporting that it has been pushed back from summer of 2018 to December that same year. Considering the fact that it was so far away anyway (we're not even out of 2015 yet dammit!), this can't have too much of an impact on audience excitement. Especially as we'll be getting a live-action Spider-Man with our new Peter Parker, Tom Holland, in 2017. If anything that may be the reason that Sony are pushing back the release date of the animated version; fear of saturating the wall-crawling market, perhaps? Either way, the more distance we have between web-slinging adventures, the better. As it is, we've already had five movies in twelve years. https://twitter.com/ERCboxoffice/status/679362180257611776 The issue may also be that Phil Lord and Chris Miller are the busiest guys in Hollywood right now, or anywhere, ever, for that matter. The projects they've got lined up over the next few years include this, the Han Solo spinoff, The Lego Movie sequel, the Lego Batman spinoff, a Ninjago spinoff, 23 Jump Street and next year's animated original, Storks. Phew. It'd be no wonder that they'd try and make as much space and time for themselves as possible. The untitled animated Spider-Man film will be released on 21 December 2018.
