In terms of both critical appraisal and box-office numbers, Spider-Man: Homecoming is a huge return to form for the web-slinger. The movie is sitting pretty at 93% on Rotten Tomatoes, just behind Spider-Man 2 (94%), and has beat all previous efforts at the opening weekend box-office apart from Spider-Man 3.

That's a more-than-fair reflection of the movie's quality, which combines a wonderful, John Hughes-esque high school story with some awesome slinging-and-swinging action. There weren't many doubts left after Captain America: Civil War, but now it's definitely confirmed that Tom Holland is a perfect Spider-Man/Peter Parker, and that the character coming 'home' was a brilliant move for all involved, and means fans already can't wait to see more of him.

Marvel and Sony, who co-produced the film (with the latter keeping that massive box-office return), had already greenlit a sequel, but even if they hadn't it would now be inevitable.

That's not just because of the sheer quality of the movie, and the demand there is to see more of these characters, but because of how much setup there is for more, and how many big questions we're left with.
