SPIDEY 3 has DRAGGED Sam Raimi to HELL!

By Matt Holmes /

Variety say Raimi will direct DRAG ME TO HELL, a horror movie he wrote alongside his brother Ivan Raimi and is a joint venture between Ghost House Pictures and Mandate. Raimi has worked on at least a dozen horror projects as producer under the same partnership with THE GRUDGE, BOOGEYMAN, THE MESSENGERS and 30 DAYS OF NIGHT but this is the first time he will direct one for the studio he created. The film is described as a morality tale about the unwitting recipient of a supernatural curse and it will go into production sometime early 2008. It's said the project was initially set to be Raimi's next film after the third EVIL DEAD movie all the way back in 1992 under the title THE CURSE but when the project never happened, it went on the shelf for a while never to be seen again. Presumably the new and original title has been picked because of the vast amount of generic horror movie titles seen in the past few years. This one screams of something new and fresh. This is by far the best thing that could happen to Raimi. Directing his smallest movie in 8 years (and his first non Spidey movie in the same time period) should be fun for what looks like a tired director, especially returning to a genre he had so much fun with in THE EVIL DEAD. Spend the majority of the first half of 2008 working on this picture, get out all your frustration with things and then see how you feel come the end of the Summer. The world will be Raimi's oyster then. He could easily return to direct a huge movie like THE HOBBIT or do a SPIDER-MAN 4 after that. God knows both Columbia and New Line respectively would love to have him.
