Promotional hailing frequencies have been suspiciously quiet on Star Trek Beyond (July 22) but Paramount have promised to increase the warp speed in the coming weeks.

We already know that a new trailer will be beamed down on us on May 20th, debuting as part of a large fan event to celebrate Trek's 50th anniversary this year. Director Justin Lin (Fast & Furious franchise) will be taking part in a Q&A session and for all intents and purposes it's going to be phasers on kill for promotional activity and not just to stun.

Ahead of that promotional drive, Paramount have released some brand new images from the film in an attempt to whet our appetite for the new reveals via the Chinese site, Check Magazine (via Trek Core for us).

The first, pictured at the top of the article, centres on a bloodied crew obviously looking at something of significance onboard what definitely doesn't look like the Starship Enterprise.

Trek Core believe the ship is actually the USS Franklin, which we already know is part of the movie thanks to the concept art that made the rounds in January...

Also take note the new Starfleet uniforms, which at least in the case of Captain Kirk, has a distinctive naval feel about it.

The rest of the images you can see below and it sure looks like the Trek characters are being put through the wringer on this movie.

Wherever the "Beyond" refers to in the title, it looks like it wasn't a pleasant place!
