Star Wars: 10 Things You Never Knew About Ahsoka Tano

Did Ahsoka have a stronger connection to the Force than the entire Jedi Order?

By John Kerr /

Ahsoka Tano was introduced in the 2008 movie Star Wars: The Clone Wars and fans hated her. The common complaint was that she was too young and annoying. As we all know, young and annoying Star Wars fans never grow up to be interesting characters... Except for Darth Vader.

And Luke Skywalker.

Or Boba Fett.

Well, anyway, another problem was that Ahsoka didn't appear in the 2005 film Revenge of the Sith. Fans took this to mean that she had an expiration date and that she would die at some point during the Clone Wars. But, as we sometimes are, the fans were totally wrong. Ok, sure, she was a little annoying early on. However, in the twelve years since her debut, Ahsoka has become one of the most popular characters in the Star Wars franchise.

Not only was she the breakout star of the Clone Wars TV show, but she also made a prominent appearance in its follow up, Star Wars Rebels. She's set to return again, this time getting her first live-action appearance in the second season of The Mandalorian, which is set to release October 2020.

Ahsoka is easily one of the most well-rounded and engaging characters to come out of Star Wars in the last decade. With that said it's worth taking a closer look at the former Jedi, and especially when there are so many things fans may not know about her...

10. As A Baby, She Was Almost Kidnapped By Jedi Impostors

Ahsoka was born on the planet Shili. Being an extremely force-sensitive child, she was discovered quickly by the Jedi. Master Plo Koon discovered the youngling Ahsoka when she was only three, and planned to take her back to the Jedi Temple.

However, before she could join the Jedi Order, Ahsoka had an encounter with an imposter Jedi. This person remained unidentified in canon and was only briefly mentioned in the Ahsoka novel. According to the Clone Wars producer, Dave Filoni, the imposter Jedi was planned to be a Zygerrian, a feline species.

The full story was never written, but Filoni revealed his planned tale at a Star Wars panel. Apparently, the Zygerrian, a female bounty hunter named Latrans, planned to kidnap Ahsoka as force-sensitive children were rare and highly sought after in the galaxy. Her plan was thwarted by Jedi Master Plo Koon when he arrived to retrieve Ahsoka.

Hopefully we'll see this story fully fleshed out in canon one day.
