After two Star Wars films in the past seven months, fans are now faced with a wait of almost a year-and-a-half before the next movie in the franchise. That, however, is a good thing for the saga.

While there were a number of factors in Solo: A Star Wars Story's failure at the box-office, among them was a lack of hype for a new Star Wars movie, especially so soon after the divisive The Last Jedi. A decent gap, and a return to a Christmas release, should ensure that the next instalment feels like a true event once again.

And what an event it should be: Star Wars Episode IX, which is currently scheduled for release on December 20, 2019, sees J.J. Abrams returning to direct and co-write (alongside Argo's Chris Terrio) after the departure of Colin Trevorrow.

Abrams finds himself in an unusual position of having to provide answers as he closes out the trilogy, and so far there aren't many clues as to what we can expect. Little is known for sure about the project (exactly how he likes it), which starts shooting soon, but already there are a lot of rumours as to what we can expect, ranging from the likely to the ludicrous.
