Star Wars: Is Boba Fett REALLY In Solo?
A toy line suggests he might just be...
Disney must really love working with toy manufacturers. On the one hand, they're an absolute necessity for big franchise releases as the tie-in merchandising sales figures (especially for things like Star Wars, Cars and Spider-Man) are astronomical, so there's no way to not do it, but, thanks to the need to push those toy lines out as early as possible to maximise sales, they also tend to spoil a lot of things.
Kids want to play with the actual characters they see in the movies in a move tie-in line and they also want to re-enact key moments of the plot. That's why LEGO sets tend to be recreations of key sequences and why certain toys have accessories designed specifically to conjure memories of specific scenes. But then, those lines are ALWAYS revealed well before the film comes out and we end up finding out things that would otherwise have been preserved from the marketing entirely (like Shuri attempting to remove the Mind Stone in Infinity War, which LEGO spoiled).
The latest POSSIBLE spoiler comes courtesy of Funko, whose Pop Vinyl tie-in lines have become an increasingly important selling opportunity for licensees, with every major blockbuster now getting at least one series of figures. That's obviously true of the upcoming Solo spin-off, whose tie-in line has already been revealed. Or at least, we thought the complete set had been.
According to a report on PopVinyls.com, a "computer report" they've seen lists a double playset including both Boba Fett and Chewbacca. Now, though they don't specify, it could be that the set is an older Star Wars series line, but those playsets are generally reserved for characters who have some sort of interaction, which Chewie and Fett obviously don't in the original trilogy. Having them in a set together makes no sense.
UNLESS of course there was an interaction between the pair in Solo...?
There have obviously been instances where Funko tie-in lines have included things not in the movie (like the grey Savage Hulk from Age Of Ultron), but that tends to be thanks to cuts to the movie, rather than them taking liberties. So it's intriguing that the listing exists (assuming it is legitimate, of course).
