Star Wars: Origins Of Han Solo's Gold Dice Revealed?

Does Qi'ra hold the key?

Han Solo's gold dice have become a key part of Star Wars lore recently, after featuring prominently in The Last Jedi (and initially in The Force Awakens too, before that scene was cut), and with Solo: A Star Wars Story on the horizon, it's likely they'll have an even bigger part to play.

The movie is going to explore Han Solo's origins, and it looks like we're going to see how he obtained those now famous dice (which started as little more than a prop in A New Hope). A photo of some new marketing materials has surfaced, and shows Emilia Clarke's Qi'ra with what appears to be the dice (and it'd be too coincidental if they weren't the same).

After The Last Jedi, Lucasfilm Story Group's Pablo Hidalgo said: “The story that you would hear if you travelled to cantinas or watering holes around the Star Wars galaxy, is that those dice were involved in a game of Corellian Spike - a dice-using version of a card game called Sabacc. Rumour has it Han won the Millennium Falcon [from Lando] with those dice. Whether or not that’s just bar talk, I can’t say.”

We know we're going to see Han win the Falcon from Lando in this movie, and the most recent trailer showed that Qi'ra already knows Lando too, and is the one who introduces Han to him. We also know that Qi'ra and Han go way back, with their relationship pre-dating even Chewbacca and Solo's, so it does look as though she'll give him the dice here.

We haven't yet got the full picture of Qi'ra's role in the story, apart from her and Han likely being romantically involved, old friends, and that she's a femme fatale type. But given she's not around in the Original Trilogy, there's a good chance her character could die (or simply betray Han), and he hangs the dice in the Falcon as a reminder.
