Having wrote several scripts lately that don't look like they are going anywhere fast (Eastern Promises 2, a remake of Le Cercle Rouge, Bobby Fischer biopic Pawn Sacrifice, the next Dan Brown movie The Lost Symbol and a Robert Kennedy biopic for Matt Damon) - gifted British screenwriter Steven Knight has decided to take the leap into directing to make sure one of his works gets made. Deadline say Knight (Eastern Promises, Dirty Pretty Things) has struck a deal to direct Hummingbird, an original thriller he penned that follows a damaged ex-Special Forces soldier who finds himself trapped in the criminal underworld and assumes another man's identity to exact revenge. The movie is setup at New Regency with 20th Century Fox to distribute worldwide. A cast is being sought with the hope to film this fall. Love his written words but the journey from writer to director is never an easy one and has tripped up many along the way. Let's hope Knight prevails.
