Just what figure do you go to after making a biopic on such a towering and important man as Abraham Lincoln? Well you go biblical of course. Steven Spielberg is reportedly close to agreeing a deal to direct a biopic of Jewish leader Moses at Warner Bros. Titled Gods And Kings, the movie is "a Braveheart-ish version of the Moses story... Him coming down the river, being adopted, leaving his home, forming an army, and getting the Ten Commandments" and will apparently carry the gritty reality of Spielberg's own Saving Private Ryan. An insider told Deadline; There have been glossy versions of the Moses story but this would be a real warrior story. The film was birthed on a treatment by Matti Leshem, the son of late Israeli Ambassador Moshe Leshem, and that was fleshed into a full script by two members of the Warner family Michael Green (Green Lantern, Smallville) and Stuart Hazeldine (Paradise Lost). The film would show the complete life of Moses from birth to death, based on the Book of Exodus and other stories from the Old Testament. We heard back in September that Spielberg was being courted hard for the project and it looks like he has taken a big shine to the script and now a deal should be made within the week. The film won't be in 3D (thank God) mirroring the big deal gimmick rival studio Paramount made in 1956 when promoting Cecile B. DeMille's The Ten Commandments in VistaVision. Though the movie will be just as huge. If history tells us anything The Ten Commandments grossed $65 million in the 50s which is almost that elusive $1 billion mark adjusted for todays inflation. Warner Bros want to begin production in March or April 2013 and as Steven Spielberg seems to have caught another second wind lately and after releasing two movies this year with War Horse and The Adventures of Tintin, and already filming another in his Lincoln biopic, before quickly moving into a movie out of Robopocalypse, Spielberg is once again thinking three moves ahead. This would be Spielberg's second big attempt at a Jewish movie after Schlinder's List which won seven Oscars in the 1990's, including Best Picture and Best Director. As for casting what would be a much lauded role, well he can't go wrong in slotting in Daniel Day-Lewis again...
