BOX OFFICE: SUPERBAD stays top, WAR has weak opening & BEAN surprises!

A slow week for big releases means that the top three of this weekend's box office are unchanged from last week.

Superbad made an estimated $18 million to keep first place. With the movie being only $9 million behind Wild Hogs' finishing total, it should only take Superbad two weeks at most before it becomes the highest grossing U.S. comedy of 2007. Still in second place is The Bourne Ultimatum which has now surpassed the last movie's total of $176.2 million by around $9 million and it's showing the legs to easily make it to the $200 million mark. Here's a little stat for ya... The Bourne Ultimatum should soon end up being the only movie this summer that's had more attendance for the sequel than the previous films in their franchise. Are you hoping for a Rush Hour 4? Well frankly it's not looking good for ya. Not only should your taste be questioned and your head examined but with Rush Hour 3's $109 million domestic after three weeks in the charts, it's going to end up being a very low taking compared to the last movie when all is said and done. Rush Hour 2 ended with $226 domestic back in 2001 and when you consider the budget costs were said to be north of $140 million, a fourth movie seems futile for New Line. As far as the new releases go, none of them made a huge impact at the Box Office apart from maybe Mr. Bean's Holiday which did a better than expected $10.1 million. Some, including me, were tracking this to be a weak opening with Bean's ten year absence from our screens but he won you guys over once again and that should be seen as a small success. Just behind Bean was the Jet Li/Jason Statham movie War which wasn't marketed nearly as well as it should have been and it showed with a $10 million opening, a below average taking for the two actors. Despite looking killer, the boxing drama Resurrecting the Champ stuttered to 12th place with a $1.8 million, the lowest taking for a wide release boxing movie in cinema history. Ouch! 1 Superbad (2007) $18M $68.6M 2 The Bourne Ultimatum (2007) $12.4M $185M 3 Rush Hour 3 (2007) $12.2M $109M 4 Mr. Bean's Holiday (2007) $10.1M $10.1M 5 War (2007) $10M $10M 6 The Nanny Diaries (2007) $7.81M $7.81M 7 The Simpsons Movie (2007) $4.4M $173M 8 Stardust (2007) $3.95M $26.5M 9 Hairspray (2007) $3.45M $107M 10 The Invasion (2007) $3.14M $11.5M

Please avoid seeing it... especially if you love the original. WE NEED THIS MOVIE TO BOMB, so we don't have to see the raping of more horror classics. AVOID, AVOID, AVOID.
