Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood To Avoid Manson Murders Anniversary
The film is now coming two weeks earlier.
Quentin Tarantino's Once Upon A Time In Hollywood is coming earlier than expected, with the movie's release date being brought forward to July 26, 2019.
Sony have confirmed the change, which is one that notably avoids any chance of controversy: the original release date, August 9, 2019, marks the 50th anniversary of the Manson murders, where Sharon Tate and a number of others were murdered.
No official reason was given for the move, but since the murders will form part of the backdrop to the movie it could've been seen as attempting to cash-in on an infamous, grim event, so it's definitely a wise decision.
The movie itself takes place in the summer of 1969, and follows fading Western TV star Rick Dalton (Leonardo Di Caprio) and his stunt double Cliff Booth (Brad Pitt) as they struggle to work in a Hollywood they no longer recognise.
Margot Robbie is attached to play Sharon Tate, who just so happens to be Dalton's next door neighbour. The rest of the cast includes Burt Reynolds, Al Pacino, Dakota Fanning, and Damian Lewis.
