Tatum wins Duke role

Latino Review called it, the lead role in G.I. JOE has gone to STEP UP actor Channing Tatum, marking the biggest role of the 27 year old's career so far. The guy has been linked with nearly every franchise role under the sun in the last year including THE INCREDIBLE HULK and THE PUNISHER but it's taken Paramount to be the studio that went ahead and gave him the ball. I would have preferred Mark Wahlberg or the originally cast Sam Worthington (AVATAR delay ruled him out) but I'm willing to give Tatum a chance. And hey, it can't be worse than the casting of Marlon Wayans. I've never really seen Tatum act outside of COACH CARTER and his uncredited "Boy in church scene' from WAR OF THE WORLDS... so I'm not angry at this though from the outside looking in if there was one part that badly needed an actor of note and some cinematic chops it was this one. Duke's the main character of the bunch right, if not officially the leader? So surely someone like Wahlberg or Clooney was perfect for this, and that extra age they had on the rest of the cast would be a benefit. There's nothing but big pessimism over this project on the web right now and although I'll agree some of the casting choices are questionable for this type of feature, some of them are very exciting (Ray Park, Joseph-Gordon Levitt). And then there's Sommers who I think this perfect for this kind of big budget, outrageous summer blockbuster. THE MUMMY was good... don't forget that! IESB say the actors portraying Destro, Zartan, Hawk, Shipwreck and Cover Girl should be announced sometime within the next week. source - aicn
