Terminator: Dark Fate Review - 5 Ups & 5 Downs
Well, it's better than the last two.
Terminator: Dark Fate is the latest in a long line of attempts to rejuvenate James Cameron's flagging sci-fi action franchise, and with Cameron himself returning in both a producer and story capacity, there was room for some cautious optimism among fans.
But while early reviews for the film are skewing broadly positive, to call Dark Fate the best Terminator film since the third isn't really much of a compliment at all, to simply say that it's not the dumpster fire that Salvation and Genisys were.
With a cast this talented and Deadpool director Tim Miller at the helm, the sixth Terminator should probably be more of a surging triumph than the relatively mediocre - if certainly watchable - reboot-sequel that it ultimately is.
Some fans will breathe a sigh of relief that the franchise's worst days may be behind it, but honestly, this isn't really the persuasive, franchise-saving sequel many will be hoping for.
Whether the film goes the distance at the box office will ultimately dictate its future above all else, but if this was the final, final word on the Terminator franchise, perhaps that wouldn't be such a bad thing...
