Terry Gilliam is as idiosyncratic a film-maker as they come. Unfortunately, we've seen very little of him in the past decade or so, and when he has surfaced it has tended to be with films that don't reach the dizzy heights of past glories. Therefore it's a pleasure to see one of his greatest films given the shiny Blu-ray treatment its visionary design deserves. Brazil is a futuristic, bureaucratic satire full of the dread and bewilderment of Orwell's nightmarish totalitarian vision of Britain, yet with plenty of black comedy thrown in to keep the mood (relatively) light. Gilliam is famed, and rightly so, for the dream-like fantasy vistas he creates and Brazil is no exception, with light, airily shot dream sequences aligned with the miserable interior of the Ministry of Information, ensuring a visual feast.
