THE GOOD, THE BAD AND THE WEIRD trailer

There's a strange cinematic reversal happening in Asia right now. For decades, Hollywood studio's would remake the best of Japanese cinema and translate them as Westerns, two of the most famous being The Seven Samurai's redo as The Magnificent Seven and Yojimbo becoming Leone's A Fistful of Dollars. Recently though in a weird twist of fate, as the Western is virtually dead in Hollywood despite a brief revival now and again, in Asia a place where Westerns are scarce to find, there have been one or two releases in the genre which have caught our eye.

We spoke of Sukiyaki Western Django last year which I have still not yet gotten round to seeing, and now comes the awesomely titled The Good, The Bad and The Weird from the director of A Bittersweet Life and A Tale of Two Sisters... Morricone's music from Kill Bill in use there - another influence from the West. The movie looks a whole lot of fun, maybe a little too on the soft side but there's awesome imagery and a refreshing feel to it that will no doubt make this one well worth hunting out. It's playing theatrically in France in October - can we hope for a nostalgic Spaghetti Western buzz and marketing that will see this fall into our theatres? source - twitch
