The Warriors: Ranking Every Gang Worst To Best

Can you count, suckers?

The Warriors is one of the most influential cult films of all time, despite receiving negative reviews and press upon its initial release.

Despite claims that movie glorifies gang culture and violence, it holds a special place in the hearts of many, and elements of the story - most notably the iconic "Waaaaarrriors... Come out a pla-aaay!" line - have permeated into pop culture over the years since its 1979 release.

The idea behind The Warriors goes all the way back to ancient history, the inspiration for the story coming from Xenophon's Anabasis, the story of a force of mercenary Greeks stranded in Persia attempting to march to safety.

The story itself possesses a certain magnetic appeal, which is only highlighted by the gritty, neon nighttime world of the movie and the colourful, almost circus-like characterisation of many of New York's fictional gangs.

Rockstar's video game of the same name offered us a little extra insight into the movie's world and the gangs that populate it. Each and every one of these urban factions are weird and wonderful, but that doesn't mean that they can't be ranked in a comprehensive list, does it now?

20. The Saracens

The Saracens' territory is Bensonhurst in Brooklyn, which they shared with The Jones Street Boys.

The two gangs at one time had an alliance, but they soon became bitter rivals, and this rivalry was referenced by Cyrus in the movie's opening.

Typically seen wearing simple black vests with a white trim, they are one of the less memorable gangs that The Warriors went up against, and they only appeared very briefly in the opening scene of the movie.

They were featured slightly more heavily in the game, however, with their leader Edge enlisting the help of The Warriors to frame the Jones Street Boys for some petty theft in order to have the rival gang's leader arrested.

The Saracens were displayed to be on relatively good terms with the Warriors, which is something of a rarity, but other than that they are entirely unremarkable.
