As the second movie in Marvel's second phase of their ever-expanding Cinematic Universe, Thor: The Dark World hits cinemas this week in the UK, making gruff beards and "ye olde" talk cool again for a while (probably). Though far from a Marvel masterpiece, The Dark World is an action-packed sequel that delivers everything you might expect from a movie about a flying God from another realm who hits things with a magical hammer - and more! Set two years after the events of the first movie, the story concerns Malekith, a Dark Elf whose ultimate goal is to bring darkness upon the entire universe and to seek revenge on Thor, his family and the kingdom of Asgard. To thwart Malekith and save the day, Thor must team up with the old gang, including beautiful astrophysicist Jane Foster, her intern Darcy, their mutual friend and crackpot scientist guy Erik Selvig, and - rather surprisingly - Thor's mischievous brother Loki, who was responsible for all the explosions in The Avengers.
