Tom Cruise & Sam Raimi team for SLEEPER

DC/Wildstorm comic property could be turned into a Cruise led franchise.

Tom Cruise is still on the hunt for his next project, which The Hollywood Reporter say could be the movie Sleeper, an adaptation of the DC/Wildstorm comic property setup at Warner Bros. Sam Raimi is on board to produce but at the moment not direct.

Written by Ed Brubaker with art by Sean Phillips, "Sleeper," which ran from 2003-05, centers on an operative whose fusion with an alien artifact makes him impervious to pain and allows him to pass it on to others through skin contact. He is placed undercover in a villainous organization by an intelligence agency and falls for a member of the group, named Miss Misery.
The trades also say Cruise's next movie could be The Tourist, the thriller he joined just last week. Both Cruise and Raimi have said to be big fans of the book and have closely watched the developments of the rights to the series over the years which is said to have complicated rights issues. After the problems WB had on Watchmen, they are desperate to make sure all the legal ends and rights are tied up for this one. They are eying the project as a potential franchise. Sounds decent enough, for some reason I'm getting a Minority Report vibe from the project but I would still advise Cruise to give Judd Apatow a call for his next project.
