Trailer: THE CONSPIRATOR - Robert Redford's Civil War Courtroom Drama

The trailer for Robert Redford's eighth directorial effort The Conspirator has finally arrived online. The Civil War era drama stars James Mcavoy as Frederick Allen, a civil war attorney and a veteran of the Union Army who was practicing law towards the final chapters of the bloody battle and found himself defending a southern woman named Mary Surratt (Robin Wright) who was accused of conspiring with John Wilkes Booth (Toby Kebbell) to assassinate the president Abraham Lincoln. Surrat was the sole woman tried and it's the conflict between her reluctant lawyer and his attempts to uncover the truth to save her life that is the core of the film. The Conspirator made its debut at the Toronto Film Festival where it wasn't met all too kindly by critics and it's April 15th release date via Lionsgate and Roadside Attractions is a mighty big fall from it's previous, winter touted Oscar run. Redford had declared that upon reading the script he was "taken aback by the fact that the Lincoln assassination was only a catalyst for this whole other story.... And it€™s a story that no one has really told before.€ - and the trailer worked for us. It looks visually and dramatically intriguing and has the talent on paper to attract our attention opening night.
