Tyler Perry is the head of the Starfleet Academy!

By Matt Holmes /

Ugo are reporting the news that writer/actor/director Tyler Perry will play the head of the Starfleet Academy in J.J. Abrams upcoming STAR TREK reboot which is now less than a year away! His big scene is expected to be opposite Chris Pine (Kirk) where he is pissed and on the verge of kicking out the young recruit for cheating at the Kobayashi Maru test. The cool thing is, the new movie will show us that it was Zachary Quinto (Spock) who ratted out his future Captain and this may even setup the first meeting between the two friends.

Perry is the 38 year old New Orleans born director and star of the popular movies DIARY OF A BAD BLACK WOMAN, WHY DID I GET MARRIED? and MADEA'S FAMILY REUNION, some of which feature the infamous Mabel "Madea" Simmons character. Madea offers the comic relief in Perry's morality plays and is an overweight and overpowering middle aged woman, played by Perry himself. At the box office, Perry has grossed over $200 million domestically and even has his own T.V. show HOUSE OF PAYNE which runs on TBS, where he has wrote and directed every single episode. His role in STARK TREK is the first film project that Perry has not written in some part by himself and will be a big test for him...

Meanwhile, with CLOVERFILED only opening in three weeks time... we are very close to actually seeing some real footage from the film. A teaser trailer WILL be attached to the monster flick and although it's most likely to be just images of space, a logo, maybe a ship and some cool text, the early word on it is quite exciting. Abrams' friend and CLOVERFIELD director Matt Reeves has already seen it...
"I€™ve just recently seen bits of the teaser. I think it€™s amazing, and it looks pretty incredible...I think people are going to be very excited,€ he said, offering a sneak preview. €œIt€™s a teaser, you know, it€™s a teaser trailer. But still, I was like €˜Wow!€™ Just the scope of it, the scale of it, you just look at it and it€™s so elegantly done.€
Awesome stuff. When words 'scope' and 'scale' are used about just a teaser trailer, it really gets me excited to see what Abrams has come up with. source - coming soon, mtv movies blog
