Venom Has The Most Viewed Spider-Man Trailer Ever
Take that, Parker!
There may have been some concerns about Sony's stand-alone Venom movie when it turned out it wouldn't feature Spider-Man (well, in anything more than the rumoured cameo), which were compounded when the first trailers raised some eyebrows among comic book fans. Mostly because it didn't look anything like a comic book movie. Or a Venom movie.
But there can't have been THAT many issues with the trailer, because the official teaser has now become the most viewed traioler of the entire Spider-Man movie franchise (by some distance too). Even Spider-Man: Homecoming and Civil War (which doesn't STRICTLY count) managed only a fraction of Venom's 64 million views.
Clearly there's enough hype in the movie - partly because of the character, partly because of Tom Hardy's presence - to justify Sony's decision to make it (and keep it separate from the MCU). And if those trailer views turn into genuiene box office returns, then Sony will be laughing all the way to the bank.
This news comes courtesy of research by Screen Crush, who discovered that the Venom trailer's 64 million views eclipsed The Amazing Spider-Man (37 million), Spider-Man: Homecoming (28 million) and teven the very impressive first teaser forSpider-Man: Into the Spider-Verse. As an even more impressive indicator of its popularity, it also outperformed Star Wars: The Last Jedi (50 million), Jurassic World: Fallen Kingdom (55 million), and Iron Man 3 (62 million).
It's still behind Jurassic World, Thor: Ragnarok and Avengers: Infinity War (there's no way anyone is ever catching that unless it's Avengers 4) but this is still a major accolade.
