Venom Spin-off Likely To Be Related To The Amazing Spider-Man 2

As we suspected back in March, Sony's revived plans for a stand-alone "Venom" movie will have ties to this July's newly rebooted continuity that begins with "The Amazing Spider-Man". All this was of course expected as "Venom" is Spider-Man's biggest contemporary villain and one day the two would have to meet again on screen, there's just no way they were going to keep them separate for too long. Sony are currently planning to go into production on a "Venon" movie in the next 12 months for a summer 2014 release, the same year that 'The Amazing Spider-Man 2" will be released on May 2nd, 2014. Suddenly you can see this mini-Sony Spidey universe building. Chronicle helmer Josh Trank is being courted to helm the "Venom" movie which I imagine will come after Eddie Brock is introduced in "The Amazing Spider-Man 2", which then will eventually lead to Spider-Man vs Venom in "The Amazing Spider-Man 3". Of course the fact that we have been there and done that doesn't particularly matter to Sony who are determined to make Venom work on screen. Producers Avi Arad and Matthew Tolmach hinted towards the connection between "The Amazing Spider-Man" franchise and "Venom" in an interview with Hollywood.com;

"Hopefully,all these worlds will live together in peace someday,"

They explained further their plans for a standalone 'Venom' movie which would make Venom's origin less science fiction and more scientific;

"It's an Eddie Brock story. We want to be as close to the comics as possible. Especially in Eddie Brock's story. But again, pseudo-science is becoming science. All these tidbits about webs, artificial webs, is a huge industry now. Spiderwebs have unique qualities that will be huge for communications, fibers, and so forth. So we have taken the approach that we want to make the huge amazing movie about Eddie." "He was a journalist. He had the wrong story, he got in trouble for it, he got fired," Tolmach continued, going on to explain how they're approaching characters like Venom. "The whole essence to us for the Marvel characters is stay close to the bible, stay close to the emotional story, and the rest is fun. Look for the worlds to make sense with one another."

Oh and unless it wasn€™t obvious, Raimi€™s continuity is dead€ this film won€™t have Topher Grace involved. The role needs to be re-cast. As the first US press screenings for "The Amazing Spider-Man" have already taken place and although review embargoes are in place, outlets like Coming Soon are giving out snippets and have confirmed that there is no mention or hint of Venom in next month's movie;

"there's nothing in The Amazing Spider-Man that even hints at Eddie Brock or his alien symbiote alter ego"
