Warner Bros Are Planning A Solo Supergirl Movie
The Girl Of Steel is coming...
Despite all the talk of the DCEU floundering and Warner Bros assessing their options when it comes to their already slated movies (apart from the slam-dunks of Wonder Woman 2, Suicide Squad 2 and apparently Flashpoint), it looks like the studio are still expanding their franchise.
According to Deadline Warner and DC are developing a new Supergirl movie, to be written by Oren Uziel, who’s currently working on the live-action Sonic the Hedgehog movie and a Mortal Kombat reboot and previously wrote The Cloverfield Paradox and 22 Jump Street. It's hard to get a sense of whether we should be excited or terrified by that CV.
There's little else to the announcement, but it seems the movie Supergirl will be separate from the TV version the same way Ezra Miller's Flash exists alongside the CW version. Presumably, this also means we'll see the cinamtic version meet up with her cousin Kal-El in some way.
Deadline suggest the agenda with Supergirl's introduction is to inject something new (including levity) into Henry Cavill's next appearance as Superman. Whether that means she'll debut in his movie or in her own stand-alone remains to be seen for now, but Warner Bros wouldn't be wrong to think there's a market for a solo Supergirl movie targetting a young female demographic AS WELL as comic book movie fans.
Let's just hope it turns out better than the 1984 version...
