Warner Bros In Talks With James Wan To Direct Aquaman
Horror maestro could swap scares for the sea?
Though their wording is purposefully knotted, The Hollywood Reporter wanted to get in first with some kind of trade paper report linking James Wan to Warner Bros. and DC Entertainment's Aquaman movie. The report says "Wan has no offer at this stage but he is the studio's choice and some preliminary talks have taken place" which makes the story feel a little premature. Anyway, it at least gives a vague sense of the direction WB want the film to go in, and a better sense that they're impressed with the box office, reviews and word-of-mouth of Fast and Furious 7. Wan was a horror specialist for much of his career, starting with Saw, but he's always maintained that he has a lot of other things in him. These include giant tentpole superhero movie, apparently. Jason Momoa is already signed on to star, and will make some kind of appearance in Batman v. Superman, as well as being one of the Justice League. Right now, Wan's plan is to shoot The Conjuring 2 this autumn, but we'll have to see if Universal exercise their option on him for Fast 8 and tie him into that instead. Or maybe Warner Bros. will do and spend whatever it takes to get him on Aquaman, though... well, from where I'm standing, it somehow seems the least likely of the options right now. Aquaman is currently set for its US bow on July 27th, 2018.
