Where's Rey? Hasbro Explains Her Absence From Star Wars Monopoly Board
The explanation is roughly 50% acceptable.
"The Star Wars: Monopoly game was released in September, months before the movies release, and Rey was not included to avoid revealing a key plot line that she takes on Kylo Ren and joins the Rebel Alliance."The explanation feels like a bit of a copout. Surely Rey could have been included as a playable character without giving away her ultimate allegiance in the movie (which was fairly obvious, anyway)? It's not for me to judge the veracity of a company's apology, but it does seem fairly weak. The spokesperson went on to say;
We are thrilled with the popularity of this compelling character and will continue to look for ways to showcase Rey across all of our product linesThey also added that Rey is being featured in other boardgames and appearing in multiple sizes of action figures/dolls.
