If there's one thing that Marvel fans seem to be clamouring for right now, it's a standalone Hulk movie featuring the likes of Mr. Mark Ruffalo, who took on the role of cursed scientist/superhero Dr. Bruce Banner in The Avengers, and has yet to be glimpsed in another Marvel Cinematic Universe venture since (well, unless you count that brief cameo at the end of Iron Man 3, that is, and we're not going to). There were several rumours circulating last year, of course, with regards to a "Planet Hulk" movie, which - based on a popular comic book - would see the big green transformation launched into space and facing off against a variety of creatures in an arena somewhere that wasn't Earth. These rumours were shot down by Marvel Studios, who said that they didn't have any plans to develop or release a Planet Hulk movie at that time. And yet producer and MCU overlord Kevin Fiege was recently questioned on the possibility of a Planet Hulk movie during the press rounds for the upcoming Guardians of the Galaxy. Here's what he had to say:
"I think what's cool about the Planet Hulk story is it's all Hulk. He's a gladiator, he's fighting all these creatures on another world. Yes, some of those creatures show up in , which makes people think, 'Oh, maybe it could exist.' And maybe it could exist, someday. I don't think that's the first place we would go though for the very reason that you stated, which is, if we were ever able to do a standalone Hulk movie, 60 percent of the fun would be seeing Mark Ruffalo leading a Marvel movie -- and that's what we would do if we ever went down that road."
Which means that Planet Hulk isn't entirely off the cards, apparently. Here's hopin' that Marvel realise the potential of such a premise and get Mark Ruffalo suited up for a big trip into space soon. What do you think? Let us know in the comments section below.
