So far, we've been on a drip feed of information, with little bits of the plot hinted at and accidentally teased by set leaks. In the absence of any official sort of outline, it's just been guesswork and assumptions filling the void. But now, we've finally got a full synopsis from Warner Bros thanks to the press release for their Comic Con plans:

“’Wonder Woman’ hits movie theaters around the world next summer when Gal Gadot returns as the title character in the epic action adventure from director Patty Jenkins. Before she was Wonder Woman, she was Diana, princess of the Amazons, trained to be an unconquerable warrior. Raised on a sheltered island paradise, when an American pilot crashes on their shores and tells of a massive conflict raging in the outside world, Diana leaves her home, convinced she can stop the threat. Fighting alongside man in a war to end all wars, Diana will discover her full powers… and her true destiny."

That sounds fairly traditional, in terms of a Wonder Woman origin story, though of course the page version saw her leaving her homeland to intervene in World War II rather than the First World War as it will be in the film. Might that have something to do with the fact that a certain other wartime hero fought Hitler and perhaps not wanting direct proximity for comparison's sake?

Obviously there are still lots of questions, but the synopsis does a good job of teasing the direction the film will be going in. The story is being credited to Allan Heinberg (Grey’s Anatomy) and Geoff Johns and is based on a screen story by Heinberg and Zack Snyder.

Wonder Woman is slated for release on June 2nd, 2017. Share your enthusiasm for the film below in the comments thread.
