Would anyone else be handling the effects of The Wolfman?

6 time special effects Oscar winner Rick Baker will be creating The Wolfman. Makes sense really, he previously created The American Werewolf in London.

The Wolf Man but I've actually got some real hope for the movie. As I've said everytime I have spoken about the film in the past, Benicio Del Toro will be living out a life long dream by playing the role made famous by Lon Chaney on screen and with the visual talents of One Hour Photo director Mark Romanek behind the helm, I see no reason why this can't be a superbly acted and terrifiyingly atmospheric horror. Yes the original Wolf Man is awesome. It's for sure one of the best Universal horror movies of the 40's (no small feat that statement) but the heart of the tale is so relatable, especially for those teenage boys who suddenely find hairs in places where they never use to be. One big hurdle the movie needs to overcome is the look of Del Toro when he is a werewolf and the news today from Shock Till You Drop is extremely encouraging if rather predictable. But in this circumstance, surely predictable is a good thing when the right man for the job is hired. They report that Rick Baker will create the special make-up effects for the movie. He was the man responsible for the truly awesome work in The American Werewolf in London and has also worked with monsters in such things as Hellboy, Cursed, Wolf and Planet of the Apes remake. We also shouldn't forget he worked on Star Wars too all those years ago. Still not convinced? How about a video of Baker's great work in one of the above movies...

Shooting on Andrew Kevin Walker's (Se7en, Sleepy Hollow) script begins in December with a November 2008 release date set in stone. Everything so far has been 100% spot on for this movie... for me this is one of the those really exciting movies that you forget is in production then smile when you are reminded it's coming.
