Zack Snyder To Direct Justice League For 2017 Release

Watchmen director to shoot the movie back-to-back with 2016's Batman vs Superman?

Zack Snyder will direct Justice League as his Batman vs Superman follow-up, Warner Bros. have confirmed. "It will be a further expansion of this universe," Warner Bros. president of worldwide production Greg Silverman told The Wall Street Journal. "'Superman vs Batman' will lead into 'Justice League.'" The Hollywood Reporter's Borys Kit then tantalised that Justice League could be released as early as 2017, claiming it will be shot back to back with the Batman vs Superman movie, which itself is due for release summer 2016. Here's the tweet, which Kit strongly confirms is the plan; Though it should be noted that the Wall Street Journal article claims the script, whilst being written, isn't yet complete and a 2018 release is more likely. Warner Bros have yet to put out a statement confirming any news but clearly with the way casting has been handled for the Batman vs Superman movie, a big ensemble Justice League was always going to closely follow. In fact with Henry Cavill set as Superman, Ben Affleck as Batman, Gal Gadot as Wonder Woman and the recently announced Ray Fisher as Cyborg, some presumed that movie was already going to basically be more a Justice League movie than a Man Of Steel sequel. Also cast for Batman vs Superman are Jesse Eisenberg as Lex Luthor and Jeremy Irons as Bruce Wayne's loyal butler Alfred Pennyworth. So Warner Bros. are basically going for the big pay-off jugular early on. Only one movie in their universe (Man Of Steel) before they team up their biggest characters in Batman vs Superman and then by the third movie they are going for what is essentially their version of The Avengers. It's different to Marvel's model which was developed with patience and grace and long-term planning, but it will be intriguing to see if it works. Audiences may be much more comfortable with the idea of an expanded universe from the get-go now that they've lived through Mavel Phase 1 and 2.
