It's no secret at this point that the Wii U is regarded by Nintendo as a financial failure. Coming off the back of the phenomenally successful Wii, the Wii U created little buzz among general consumers at release, and continues to skirt around flatlining entirely to this day.

It's tough to know why. Was it the name, which many mistakenly misconstrued to be nothing more than a Wii accessory? The lack of marketing? Or the fact that the Wii's casual audience had moved on?

In the end, the exact reason is irrelevant. Yet, just because the Wii U failed to sell as many consoles as the Wii, doesn't mean that in lacked in amazing games.

In fact, some of the best games Nintendo has ever released are on this console - more than justifying its existence.

Here are the ten best.

10. The Wind Waker HD

The Legend Of Zelda: The Wind Waker HD may not be a brand new Wii U title, but it's one of the best games available on the system, and the definitive version of one of the Zelda series' greatest games.

Released in 2013, The Wind Waker HD takes the 2002 GameCube title and completely overhauls the graphics, transforming the cel-shaded style into gorgeous 1080p, upping the texture resolutions and adding a new lighting system.

But it's not just the game's aesthetic that gets a makeover. The gameplay itself is also tweaked, ironing out the few flaws present in the original, with things like late game quest, Tingle Triforce, being streamlined, and the inclusion of the Swift Sail meaning that sailing is a much more enjoyable experience.

With these updates, The Wind Waker HD is absolutely one of the best Zelda titles ever made, and a worthy Wii U title.
