10 Beloved PS1 Exclusives That NEED To Come Back
Let's breath some life into old classics.
Resident Evil, Tekken, Crash Bandicoot, Spyro... all franchises that started on Sony's first console, that have gone on to have many sequels and successes over the years.
Even not as popular yet well received series started on the little grey box, like Ape Escape, Tenchu: Stealth Assassins or Capcom's other beat 'em up, Rival Schools. They may not have hit lofty heights like the above, but they went on to have sequels on the next generation of consoles.
But what about the ones that didn't make that jump? Not games that were terrible and should be forgotten, but the ones that didn't make the cut or ever see progressive sequels.
The "Final Fantasy rip-off" that everyone actually enjoyed, the craziest snowboarding series that came along way before SSX, or a dueling game with real choice and consequence?
What about the adventures of Aya Brea, whose second outing on the PlayStation was a worthy contender to Resident Evil's crown? Why did Dino Crisis 3 have to exist to make it exempt from this list?!
It may be the nostalgia talking, but in this day of remakes, remasters and rejiggings of old titles, why don't we revisit some of the last century's buried seeds and see what should bear fruit again?
10. Oddworld: Abe's Odyssey/Exodus
Granted, the Oddworld franchise has gone on to make Munch's Odyssey and Stranger's Wrath, so slight caveat there.
But as for our favourite chanting, team-leading freer of Mudokens, the titular Abe, hasn't made an appearance since Exodus. Oh sure, we had emulations on the PS3, as well as the New 'n' Tasty remake of the first game in 2014, but that doesn't count.
What we need is a fresh new adventure with the Oddworld's least likeliest hero, in a new environment and challenge that throw us back to that classic gameplay we all love.
Oddworld Inhabitants, the developer being the hapless hero, did announce a new adventure in the guise of Oddworld: Soulstorm. Continuing Abe's fate, in the four years since its announcement, we haven't had much to go on bar a few trailers and a tentative release date of this year.
Could we finally be praying and farting our way through another amazing quest, or will this be one of those titles we talk about next year that never came to fruition?
Fingers crossed for the former, as there's always Mudokens that need saving.
