Unlockable characters are one of the most exciting rewards you can get in video games. A new face in your roster of playable characters or companions can add a lot of much needed variety to your experience with a game.

However, not every unlockable character is equal to another.

While some are unlocked merely by progressing through a title, others require you to take on a challenge that borders on impossible. In fact, the challenge might be so great you may not even know they exist.

Some of these unlockables will require you to finish the game multiple times, some will make you search for clues and secrets no one will even tell you about, and some will have you complete a very specific set of tasks that you won't be allowed to mess up even once.

Getting these characters to appear in your game is the greatest challenge you'll ever face, but then again, it makes them a far more satisfying reward to unlock.

If you're up for the challenge or you want to see what kind of unlockables hide behind impossible, hard challenges, the following list is for you!

10. Wolverine - Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3

If Hugh Jackman's repeated returns to the silver screen have taught us anything, you can never have too much of the clawed X-man.

Surprisingly enough, you can find one such cameo in Tony Hawk's Pro Skater 3, of all things, and the reason why you may not have heard about this before is because this secret unlockable hero is tied to one of the hardest challenges in the game.

In order to get Wolverine to hop onto a board and shred some wicked gnar, you need to complete all of your career goals and win gold in all three competitions in the game with two different characters.

What this means is that you not only need to complete the game twice, but you basically have to do a 100% completion of it twice, too, to get the medals.

The challenge can be a bit tricky even to Pro Skater veterans, which is why a lot of the players have not even realized Wolverine is in the game.

Once you unlock him, however, the fun is worth the effort as he comes with custom animations, movesets, and flavor text.

Not to mention, it's just great to see Marvel's grumpiest mutant ditch his motorcycle for four plastic wheels and a board.
