10 Huge Gaming Controversies That Rocked Sony PlayStation

Ever hear the one about the four-boobed woman? Sony tell it best.

Remember when Sony's ad-campaigns were downright disturbing? Back in the day the success of the PS1 had become so widespread so fast, it freed up their marketing team to go a little more... experimental with the PS2. Many readers around the 25 year-old mark will remember the cross-eyed Japanese 'alien' ad that featured a Scottish girl vaguely describing allegories of preparation and applying yourself to a given situation - y'know, 'gamer stuff'. Obviously nothing in the above paragraph is to suggest any offence to the lady in question's looks, but to a younger audience who randomly saw this in the middle of otherwise unassuming adverts for vacuum cleaners and upcoming movies, it was pretty damn terrifying. All that is to say until they needed to step it up a gear and recover their footing following a generational trouncing from Microsoft and the 360, they were forever a company that somewhat played by their own rules, occasionally catching the ire of the general public because of it, but mostly building a brand off the back of some stellar games that did most of the talking instead. However, it wouldn't be worth looking into their history if not to shine a light on when their collective cooks threw far too many potent ingredients into the broth, getting the company in headlines worldwide for all the wrong reasons - as well as occasionally looking mighty daft in the process.
