One of the main appeals of video games is their outlandishness, their ability to allow us to do things we couldn't in real life such as, say, fly...or fire a gun that launches cows at the enemy. Action games are defined by a number of things - the enemies, the maps, and of course, the kick-ass array of weaponry bestowed upon you. Though it's great fun wielding super-powered machine guns and rocket launchers, some developers appreciate that there's a lot to be said for a weapon that is just outright ridiculous, and generally, the sillier a weapon is, the more fun it will be to use. And no, I'm not talking about the likes of the BFG from Doom - that's too normal for this discussion. Read on to see just how demented things can get...
10. Rock-It Launcher (Fallout 3)
Fallout 3's world has been ravaged by a nuclear apocalypse, and as such it follows that the world is going to be a wasteland of rubble and garbage. A lot of the fun of the Fallout world is rummaging around the desolate landscape looking for goodies, and more enterprising players might discover that one man's irradiated rubbish can be another's awesome weapon. Crafting one of gaming's more inventive projectile-based weapons and promoting recycling at the same time, all you need to build the Rock-It Launcher is a vacuum cleaner, a leaf blower and then a firehose nozzle. What's truly absurd and fun about it is that you can fire a huge number of items out of it, be it empty beer bottles or cutlery, and the great thing is, of course, that your ammunition can be re-used. It's the ultimate in environmentally friendly, re-usable, even sustainable weaponry.
