Happy Friday the 13th! It's that one day of the year most cherished by horror movie obsessives the world over, but nobody more so than fans of the Friday the 13th franchise itself.

Though the movie series has sadly fallen into a state of inactivity since the release of 2009's Friday the 13th reboot, Jason Voorhees' legacy continues to live on through Illfonic's multiplayer survival horror video game, aptly titled Friday the 13th: The Game.

Released in the summer of 2017, the game received mixed reviews from critics due to its undeniable lack of polish, though blossomed thanks to continued updates from the dev team, while fans came to embrace it as the first legitimately good Friday the 13th game.

The game's player-base has admittedly thinned out in recent times, with only the most committed fans still sticking with it, but it nevertheless endures as one of the most creative and entertaining video games ever based on a movie - flaws and all.

But the game's development was nothing if not a rollercoaster ride for Illfonic and fans alike, and so there's probably plenty you don't know about how it all came to pass..
