10 Times Video Game Critics Got It Wrong
Don't trust the reviews.
A good game is a completely subjective thing. What one player likes and another doesn't can be completely different, and it makes reviewing them a pretty hard thing to do.
How do you score a product when there's always going to be some people out there who just don't like it? Critics have struggled with this problem for a long time, and it's something that doesn't seem like it'll ever be fixed.
Understandably, there are going to be a few times when - through the eyes of the wider populace - they get it completely wrong.
Whether it be snubbing a good game and not giving it the attention it deserves, or giving a mediocre game a good review, the amorphous collective voice we tend to give critics doesn't always result in the "right" score.
Whilst some would argue that it doesn't matter as long as the player enjoys the game, the review scores that a game gets can massively impact how well that title does, so it's a pretty big deal.
With that in mind, let's hope that the critics avoid making the same mistakes twice.
10. Destiny 2
Metacritic Score: 8.5
User Score: 4.9
Nobody likes Destiny 2 more than the critics.
Upon launch (and even now to some extent), Destiny 2 was considered to be one of the emptiest experiences this generation, with no massive improvements over the original game, and nothing really placing it above any game out at the time.
Unlike the first Destiny, which still managed to have a large and devoted fanbase, Destiny 2 was mostly rejected by those same people. Destiny 2 was labled as boring, unfulfilling and a grind. That's not even mentioning how bad the randomised loot had gotten.
Yet, despite all of this, Destiny 2 still managed to get some pretty great reviews from critics all over. Eights and nines all over, with only a few critics giving it mediocre scores.
For a game that's generally regarded as Destiny 1.5, how the critics gave it better reviews is a mystery. It seems like many were blinded by it's production values.
