Is there anything more satisfying in the world of gaming than beating a particularly hard boss that's been grinding you into paste for the last few days?

That intoxicating rush of pride, triumph and sweet, sweet endorphins is a high that's seldom matched in the medium and exudes a potent allure that drives you on to conquer the next big challenge that the game throws at you.

Boss encounters are supposed to be a test of the skills you've amassed over the course of the game, but in some cases, the odds can be so heavily weighted against you that it becomes truly unfair.

Whether it's through poor design or the game asking too much of you, an unfair boss fight can really put a dampener on your experience as a whole, especially if you have to resort to less scrupulous methods to take them down.

And where's the fun in that, eh?

The bosses featured here today aren't broken by any stretch, but the scales are definitely tipped against the player in such a way that they become genuinely unfair. Each of them can be beaten, but you'll have your work cut out if you attempt to take them on.

10. Lu Bu (Dynasty Warriors 4)

Often singled out as the most consistently hard character to face in the Dynasty Warriors series, Lu Bu has been striking fear into the hearts of players since the very early days of the franchise. Due to his incredible size and speed, he's always been one tough mother, but it's his turn in Dynasty Warriors 4 that borders on ridiculous.

You first encounter the spear-wielding terror at the Battle of Hulao Gate, where he and his army of thousands eagerly await your arrival. Once you've sliced your way through the masses to get to him, you're given the option to duel.

If you accept, you must fight him mano-a-mano in an enclosed arena, without the aid of any soldiers or even your friend if you're playing co-op. He's no cakewalk on the battlefield, but agreeing to this duel is tantamount to a death sentence.

He sports incredible reach, fast-acting combos that deal high damage and an unblockable parry move. One that will absolutely destroy your character in a single strike if you're not careful.

For the sake of your own sanity, we recommend declining the duel and fighting him alongside your companions.
