If you want someone to lose all faith in humanity, give them a headset and let them try out Xbox Live. Small groups of normal people exist nervously amongst the waves of frantically swearing 6 year olds and casual racism. Sometimes its preferable to just disconnect your headset and mute everyone, but if you can resist that urge youll spend a lot of your time listening to people complain. One of the favourite causes of complaint is losing the game, and the vast majority of the excuses people give while losing are ridiculous. So without further ado, here are the 7 most nonsensical excuses people make while playing online...
7. Lag
Im going to put this at number 7 because its obviously a valid factor in many games. Sometimes theres a delay between the server and your console, and sometimes that delay will cost you dearly. However, all too many players will blame any loss on lag, and since its impossible to really know if theyre lagging, whos going to argue? Logically, lag helps you as often as it hinders you. Few people, however, will acknowledge killing someone due to their bad connection. Its a bit like playing football in a storm its not fun for both sides, but theyre equally at a disadvantage. The best course of action, in my experience, is to suck it up, find a quiet corner somewhere and just play as best you can. Having said all that, really bad lag is capable of ruining games, and certainly can be a factor in losing. It just doesnt happen as often as youd think, and certainly not as often as some would claim.
