7 Video Games With Enormous Hollywood Movie Potential

2016 promised the unthinkable - the year that Hollywood would get the video game adaptation right with both Warcraft and Assassins Creed seeing big budget releases.

Warcraft had the incredibly talented Duncan Jones at the helm, fresh off of the success of Moon and Source Code, and as an avid fan of the franchise, fans and critics alike hoped that he would be able to bring his sensibilities to a genre in dire need of a fresh lick of paint.

Unfortunately, Warcraft was torn a new one by critics and flopped commercially in all major markets bar China. It may have been a film that diehard fans loved, but it had to appeal to those not well versed in Warcraft lore in order to be a success. Unfortunately, Jones couldn't pull this off.

Now the pressure falls on Assassin's Creed starring Michael Fassbender. Whilst still images and trailers have so far painted a stylistic tour de force with an incredibly gifted cast, forgive me for feeling wary that his will end up being another subpar blockbuster adaptation of a radically popular franchise.

It's not all doom and gloom, though.

If the end of days comes to pass and Assassin's Creed falls on its own hidden blade, the games industry is full of diverse intellectual property ripe for Hollywood to exploit.

Let's take a look at seven fan favourite games perfect for the big screen...

7. Star Wars: Knights Of The Old Republic

Although some of you may consider this a cheat, Star Wars: Knights of The Old Republic is one of the most beloved games of all time and could form the backbone for an epic Star Wars trilogy.

Considering that Lucasfilm is producing 'Star Wars Stories' alongside the new trilogy, it isn't out of the realm of possibility that they would tackle this almighty project.

Knights of The Old Republic takes place 4000 years prior to the rise of the evil Empire we know and love from the original Star Wars trilogy. A sith army is unleashed upon the Republic by the apprentice of Darth Revan, Darth Malak, sending the surviving Jedi into hiding across the galaxy. This serves as the background for your lead character to become a Jedi Knight, after seeking refuge at a Jedi Temple and provides an opportunity for fans to see their favourite locations prior to the rise of the Skywalkers.

The game features a diverse range of now fan-favourite characters acting in resistance to Malak and would go a long way to washing the taste of the prequel trilogy out of fans' mouths. Gamers have been clamouring for years to see this period of Jedi supremacy realised and with twists and turns aplenty, this would make for riveting viewing on the big screen.

With epic set pieces one of the greatest twists in gaming history, Knights of The Old Republic would be a movie fans wet dream.
