Maybe you don't try and kill the guy who's trying to cure you?

Whenever you have to deal with the death if a video game character, chances are it's going to hit harder than almost any other medium. Specifically, that's down to the fact that aside from spending hours reading a book and becoming fully immersed in a particular world, gaming lets you interact with a number of characters for extended periods of time, watching them animate, understanding their motivations and ultimately thinking of them as living beings within their respective worlds. So come the point you have to sever that tie, there are always going to be those titles that do it right, and others well, not so much. Now, this list isn't going to pick apart some of the following moments in any self-righteous "Urgh what were they thinking!?" sort of way, but as all gamers/nerds/over-thinkers like to do; there's nearly always another way something could've gone down that would've saved everyone (in this case) a lot of grief. So, if you've ever found yourself screaming at the TV following a weighty or emotional scene, or just as the credits rolled thinking "WTF was that?! Why didn't they do this??" as everyone else is too busy singing something's praises to notice, it's okay - just let it out.
