Anthem Review: 4 Ups & 9 Downs
A spectacular disappointment.
BioWare's much-anticipated multiplayer action-RPG Anthem launched on EA/Origin Access over the weekend ahead of its physical release on February 22nd, and...things aren't looking good for EA's latest AAA tentpole right out of the gate.
Having spent the weekend blasting through the game's sure-to-be-controversial campaign and dipping into its post-game content, it's painfully clear that Anthem was a game rushed to market long before it was ready.
Following the colossal disappointment that was Mass Effect: Andromeda back in 2017, this is another baffling misfire for the legendary developer, and yet further proof that EA doesn't have much interest in delivering complete, satisfying experiences to paying customers.
You're going to hear a lot from various outlets in the next few days about how rough Anthem is, and if you've got a pre-order pending, you might want to think about cancelling it ahead of launch day.
Despite the solid promise of its beta, Anthem is one of the most jaw-dropping missed opportunities in recent gaming history, offering up only fleeting entertainment value at best...
