Ubisoft took a year off, analysed the competition, seemingly said to themselves "Right, how to we land with a bang?" and proceeded to fix almost every last issue with Assassin's Creed as a franchise.
Whilst Origins isn't perfect - far from it if we're being objective - there's a lot to like, and being this is made by the Black Flag team, you can tell they've pulled out as many stops as possible to make an Assassin's Creed for the ages. Thankfully general reception is skewing towards positive, as not only have critical responses been good, but after going hands-on the finished product is a sequel worthy of Assassin's Creed circa part 2 and Brotherhood.
Indeed, Bayek's revenge-driven tale to thin the ranks of an illuminati-style cult in Egypt is one of the most engaging Ubi have written in years. Both he and wife Aya are a duo hellbent on avenging the death of their child whilst revelling in the act of bloodshed with each kill - a somewhat darker look at a protagonist that is more morally grey than anyone we've controlled before.
All that said, regardless of whether you're mainlining the story or indulging in all the Egyptian wilderness, thanks to minimal tutorial there are a TON of features you've probably missed...
