Yesterday details finally emerged concerning Arkham Origins' multiplayer mode, a feature new to the franchise. Thankfully, unlike the multiplayer in games such as Uncharted or Tomb Raider, it seems to have been made with a certain amount of care rather than simply being tacked on, which is what the majority of people feared might happen. The only mode revealed so far is a domination style affair called Invisible Predator. Matches have three teams going against each other, two of which are gangs who fight for control of certain checkpoints on the map and the third consisting of Batman and Robin, whose job it is to hunt through the environment silently picking off members of both other teams. The three players in each gang and must capture/hold checkpoints while keeping an eye open for the dynamic duo, winning when their team accumulates a certain number of points. Winning as Batman and Robin is slightly more complicated, but I believe the idea is that you have an intimidation meter in the shape of the bat signal which slowly fills as your team gets KOs, and when its full the gangs abandon their mission out of fear. In a similar way to Star Wars Battlefront, those playing in the gangs have the opportunity to play as their teams villainous leader (either Joker or Bane, depending which side youre on) for a set amount of time. This opportunity occurs after your team gets a certain number of points, at which stage a meeting area opens and the first player to gets there swaps out to play as their corresponding A-List boss. Its likely more gangs will be revealed later on as, although six different characters (including the thug) are currently known to be playable, not one is a woman, so its likely Talia Al Ghul, Poison Ivy, or another female nasty will be revealed at some point before release. This three way battle system doesnt come up very often in multiplayer games so it will be an interesting change to the usual stuff. Ive been given a Beta pass for the multiplayer so well hopefully be able to publish some more details shortly, provided they dont break embargo. Multiplayer will be available on the PC, PS4, and Xbox One copies of the game, though it wont be making an appearance on the Wii U because, according to a Warner Bros. representative, The team are focussing development efforts on platforms with the largest MP audience.
