Battlefield V's Battle Royale Mode Delayed Until 2019
But does anybody even care?
We've heard surprisingly little about Battlefield V since EA hit it with a last-minute delay, pushing it a month from its original October 19th release date to November 20th. However, hot on the heels of unveiling a new look at the single-player, DICE have now revealed their post-launch plans for the shooter. In between announcements of maps, game modes and customisation options however, came the news that Firestorm, BFV’s Battle Royale mode, won’t actually be making it to the game until next March.
Initially this does seem very, very weird, and could add to the narrative that nobody knows what the hell is going on with Battlefield V, as it seems to have stumbled at every hurdle for the past 6 months. But it sort of makes sense, as despite being little under a month away from release we’ve only had a short glimpse at the mode, and it hasn’t shown up in any of the Alphas or Betas so far. However, giving the Battle Royale element more time to breathe could be winning decision.
Like it or not, people are still ignoring their loved ones and getting sacked from their jobs to play endless games of Fortnite, and Blackout is also enjoying massive success. There’s only so many of these experiences players can juggle at the same time, so holding off until March and then launching when people start to get a little bored of these games could see fans more eager to embrace Firestorm.
In the same vein though, by then the Battle Royale bubble might have burst entirely, and if DICE haven’t pushed the sub-genre forward enough - if you’re still parachuting into the same barren map and picking up the same items - people will be even harsher. Either way, we’ll all no doubt argue about it come March 2019.
