Today Activision purchased the rights to the website blackops2.com, suggesting that Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 might be in the works. The domain was owned by MarkMonitor which is a "internet brand protection company that caters to over half the Fortune 100, of which Activision is a client." Up until this point Activision had bought the Black Ops domain names up to number 6 but not 2 until today. The original Call of Duty: Black Ops was developed by Treyarch, who has generally developed a Call of Duty game every other year. As Sledgehammer Games developed Call of Duty Modern Warfare 3 last year, 2012 is the year Treyarch should be due to release a new Call of Duty game. In addition, we know for a fact that Activision will be releasing a Call of Duty game this year. So even though this is just a rumour for now, I would put some stock into it considering all the facts we have and that Black Ops sold some 14 million copies. My guess is that Activision will split the Call of Duty franchise into Black Ops and Modern Warfare games that alternate every other year because of the brand recognition. What do you think, will we see Call of Duty: Black Ops 2 this year, or will it be an entirely different Call of Duty game?
