There is little in the world of video gaming that leaves a lasting impression, be it good or bad, quite like that of a boss encounter which has us shivering in the foetal position uttering the words "When will it end, when will it end..." Sound familiar? If you've played Dark Souls, then I wouldn't be surprised. Dark Souls had a truly remarkable range of bosses, most of which were a real test of a gamer's metal. Time after time we plunged our characters through a fog gate with the painful knowledge that the chances of seeing those big red letters 'YOU DIED' were overwhelmingly high. This game had bosses which made complete fools of us over and over again; they caused controllers to be broken and sanities to be lost. And yet we all fell head over heels in love with it? Blimey we're an odd bunch. Well, if we're crazy or not, one thing is for sure, and that is the sheer greatness of this game is largely accredited to its boss fights. Not only do they possess gloriously horrifying, 'holy-crap-that's-a-big-demon'-looking visuals, they also compel your skill as a gamer to come into full fruition, and were ultimately a lot of fun, even when we were dying countless times to them. The bosses we'll be discussing today are the ones that really took the biscuit. I mean, there were times when it just got ridiculous, where you literally had to take a break because you were dangerously close to ripping your own hair out. Here's a list of 10 bosses from Dark Souls which were of a particular "oh, come ON!" flavour, before March 14th brings us a whole bunch of new ones.
Honourable Mention: Asylum Demon
This one goes out to those of you who were as stupid as me, and thought that you actually had to kill the Asylum Demon on the tutorial level when you first saw it, with nothing more than a broken sword hilt. This was pretty much an impossible task, and led one to believe that this is what people meant when they said that Dark Souls was crushingly difficult. Of course, all you had to do was get the hell out of there by running through a little doorway. At this discovery, all we could do is laugh at our embarrassing folly, and simultaneously sigh with relief.
