Dave Bautista being Gears of War's Marcus Fenix has been a dream fan casting that's threatened to become a reality over the first half of 2019. The actor himself has commented on how good a fit he'd be to play the video game character multiple times, previously describing it as his dream role.

Sadly, despite causing such a response online, it doesn't look like Hollywood is interested in a Bautista-led Gears film. Responding to tweet regarding the casting, the former wrestler replied: "Believe me when I say I’ve tried everything to make this happen."

It's a shame, as it was just last month while answering fan questions via GameSpot that the Guardians of the Galaxy star reiterated how he's actively pursuing the project, saying: “I believe it’s in the hands of Universal Studios. And I have been knocking on their door and badgering them and they are so sick of me.”

Bautista doesn't just look the part or have the action chops to pull off such a physical role, but is actually a damn fine actor in his own right. Whether it's the comedy of Guardians or the more understated tragedy of Blade Runner 2049, he has the talent to lead a major Hollywood movie, and hopefully with enough of a push, Universal will realise that too.
