Bioware has had a difficult few years, but you don't need me to tell you that.

Moving from one tumultuous project to the next, the studio has allegedly been struggling to keep their employees happy and healthy, and that inner turmoil has resulted in misguided games like Mass Effect: Andromeda and Anthem.

The studio's last great project was 2014's Dragon Age: Inquisition, a sprawling RPG in the classic sense that was a hit with both fans and critics (with the exception of the Hinterlands), and a winner of a whole host of Game of the Year awards.

Where Bioware's other franchises were showing real signs of wear and tear, Dragon Age looked to be holding strong. A fourth game in the franchise had always been anticipated, but it became even more desired in light of the studio's failings.

Surely, Dragon Age would be able to right all these wrongs? Perhaps restore Bioware to its former glory? Whether it can actually fulfil such inflated expectations is yet to be seen, but after a vague announcement trailer at 2018's Game Awards, a string of recent leaks and rumours (primarily from this excellent piece by Jason Schreier) are starting to paint a strong picture of how the sequel is shaping up.
