Yes, some of us are more naturally blessed with the required reflexes, cunning, and capacity to remember more than two skill moves - but each new instalment of the EA franchise provides an opportunity for rebirth. Everybody starts the season on an even playing field with regards to the game's new features and points of emphasis, and we're here to help you get a crucial headstart.

This year's FIFA sees the introduction of a cluster of new tricks, some functional, some shamelessly for showboating. The game's set pieces have been overhauled, but there's also a handful of nifty new skill moves to master, as well as a more functional group of abilities (including threaded through passes, downward headers, and the exotic-sounding trivela free kick).

Follow our instructions and you'll soon find yourself using every new trick in the book. Learn to outmuscle, outfox, and even out-celebrate your nearest and dearest - as well as those pesky online rivals, and of course, the CPU.

10. Driven Shot

With goalkeepers receiving a substantial ability boost for FIFA 17, you're going to need to vary your shots in order to find the back of the net. One of the best ways to do this is with the game's new driven finish, which should send the ball skimming along the surface of the pitch en route to goal. This will (hopefully) mate your player more likely to get on the scoresheet, and is particularly effective from inside the box. It also helps negate the security of the near post, which seems to have been restored threefold since FIFA 16.
